Home exercise adherence calculator

Two calculators. The first turns a patient's completed sessions into an adherence rate and tells you what to do about it. The second estimates what unfinished courses of treatment cost your clinic over a year.

1. Patient adherence rate

57%

Partial adherence

17 of 30 sessions · 13 missed

Roughly half the prescribed dose is landing. This is the most common band in practice, and the most rescuable: shorten the programme, cut it to the two or three exercises that matter, and tie it to an existing daily habit.

A common convention in rehab research is to treat 80% or more of the prescribed dose as "adherent", 50–79% as partial, and under 50% as non-adherent. Thresholds vary between studies, so use this as a shared language with the patient rather than a verdict.

2. What drop-off costs the clinic

84

unbooked sessions per year

21,000

in unrealised session fees

Assumes early-stopping patients complete about half of their planned sessions. It is an order-of-magnitude estimate for planning conversations, not an accounting figure — swap in your own drop-off rate if you track it.

Now change the number

Measuring adherence is only useful if something follows it. The patient compliance guide covers the twelve clinic behaviours that reliably move this percentage, and the exercise library gives you short programmes that patients will actually finish.
